Designing a new Bullet Journal Stencil

Last month I offered all of our lovely Facebook and Instagram followers the chance to come up with a brand new stencil idea!
There were lots of brilliant entries and I narrowed it down to my top 5:

1. Camping / Caravan theme

2. New born / toddler tracker

3. Household chores

4. Summer themed – mermaids and beach

5. House layout

With summer fast approaching (I hope!) the summer themed stencil seemed like to good an idea to miss, so I announced the winner of our competition.

Now the hard bit… turning the idea into a design.

I got in touch with the winner to find out a few more details about her design.

She really wanted not only mermaid but waves and other beach themed items.

My stencil designs are created on the Silhouette software that comes with the Silhouette cutting machine.

First I start with my blank stencil template.

I then begin drawing and playing with the stencil composition adding in a mermaid, waves, sun, a starfish and sea horse and a cocktail.

For the mermaid I separated her hair and her body to be able to give her more detail.

This was the final design:

Once I had the design it was time to cut it from laminated card using my Silhouette machine. This gave me the finished stencil:

With all of my stencils I spend some time playing with them and using them in my Bullet journal before deciding if there need to be any changes to the design.

The competition winner was the first to receive the new stencil before adding it to my Etsy Shop

What do you think of my new stencil?

💜☀️💜

I live in Essex in the UK with my gaggle of furry friends including Daisy the dog. I have had lifetime passion/obsession for beautiful stationery and to do lists which has lead me to the wonderful world of Bullet journals. When I first starting bullet journaling it struck me the lack of UK based resources for journal accessories which lead me to create my own. I know have my very own webshop selling my hand made journal stencils and ship all over the world and am just as enthusiastic as I ever was about stationery and organisation!!
